International Women’s Day – 8th of March

Tomorrow marks International Women’s Day, a day in which all women around the world are celebrated.
International Women’s Day is a focal point in the women’s rights movement. It gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. Spurred by the universal female suffrage movement, IWD originated from labour movements in Europe and North America during the early 20th century, with the modern holiday.
IWD is a celebration of progress, and a reminder of the ongoing challenges women face worldwide.

This year’s theme is ‘Accelerate Action’.
Focusing on the need to Accelerate Action emphasizes the importance of taking swift and decisive steps to achieve gender equality. It calls for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
The theme emphasizes the urgency of making faster, more effective strides toward gender equality.
